Victory in Amsterdam and number 1 for Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria!

The final of the Amsterdam Open 2023 would pit the couples 1 and 3 of the World Padel Tour ranking, Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria against Bea Gonzalez and Delfi Brea. There was a lot at stake for the former, as a win would mean the title of queens of the season with two months left to go.

Ari and Paula, from less to more against Bea and Delfi

From the start, tension and nerves were present on court. Both couples made a lot of mistakes, which resulted in a very irregular first set. Ari and Paula had two balls to take the first set, but they didn’t take advantage and the set was decided in the tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Paula and Ari were more successful and took the first set.

The second set was completely different. Motivated by winning the tiebreak, Sanchez and Josemaria started to find a better feeling on court. They took advantage of their opponents’ tiredness and managed to take advantage from the first moments of the set, while Delfi and Bea lost the rhythm of the match. After almost two hours of intense battle, Ari and Paula put a convincing 6-0 on the scoreboard, thus becoming the Amsterdam Open champions and most importantly, automatically confirming themselves as the number 1 of the World Padel Tour in 2023.

A number 1 with a historic flavour on tour

The couple formed by Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria have won a whopping 13 titles in 14 finals, becoming the couple with the most titles in a single season on the World Padel Tour.

With 4 tournaments left in the season, Ari and Paula are already mathematically number one on the World Padel Tour, thus overcoming last year’s disappointment, when they lost the number one spot in the last match of the season.
