Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia achieve a hard-fought victory in Brussels

It will be remembered as one of the matches of the year! The men’s final of the Brussels Open 2023 has been a thriller, as has been the women’s final, where Ari Sánchez and Paula Josemaría have taken the victory. Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia beat Franco Stupaczuk and Martín Di Nenno, the couple that has put them in trouble the most this season.

The conditions of the court, slower than in previous tournaments, were more suited to the game of the Superpibes, who started by beating their opponents in the first set. With an early break, they took a 2-0 lead. They held that minimal advantage for many games, but at 5-4 and on serve, they were unable to close out the set. They lost and were punished by Tapia and Coello, who took the first set in the tiebreak.

Back on court and once again Stupa and Di Nenno started to take the lead. The Argentine couple were 3-0 up and, although their opponents tried to get closer on the scoreboard, the Superpibes didn’t make the same mistake and forced the third set with a 6-3 win.

In the last set of the final of the Brussels Open 2023, both couples held their serves until the seventh game, when Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia broke their opponents’ serve to take a 4-2 lead. They managed to manage this advantage until the end, closing out the match 6-3.

One of the curiosities of the match was when looking at the final statistics of the match, as both couples had the same number of winners in the match. However, the golden points would be the differential factor for Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia to win their sixth title of the season.

After the match, Arturo Coello commented: “It was an extremely tough match. We won against the toughest couple we can play against. They always have an answer for everything we do. They are an unbelievably good couple, and the match was extremely tough. I can’t describe how much I enjoy playing alongside Agustin”.

Both couples will rest next week and will not play the Alicante Open 500. Their sights are now set on the Vigo Open from the 6th to the 14th of May.
