For some time now, the airs of a break up have been hanging over them and now, after their elimination in the last sixteen of the Paris Major, it seems that the time has come for them. Momo Gonzalez and Sanyo Gutierrez say goodbye as a couple and will embark on new adventures separately.
Shortly after losing their round of 16 match against Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto, rumours of separation started to revive on Twitter, and shortly after in some specialised media.
Momo Gonzalez and Sanyo Gutierrez have played together for four months or, in other words, a total of 14 tournaments played between World Padel Tour and Premier Padel.
Taking stock of their project, their results have gone from better to worse. The duo started their career with two semifinals and a final at the Marbella Master in the first three tournaments they played. Shortly after, at the Danish Padel Open they reached another final. A letter of introduction that made them believe that their place was at the top.
However, the main problem the pairing have encountered is their irregularity. Momo and Sanyo have suffered several setbacks, as in the Italy Major and the recent Paris Major.
The duo showed some wear and tear on the court and also on the benches, where we’ve seen several video captures that indicated that things weren’t going very well.
They could have broken before as a couple, but they gave themselves a second chance, changing several things in their game, such as their position side, without making Australian in the serves.
According to some media such as Olé, Sanyo Gutiérrez already has a new partner, his nephew Agustín Gutiérrez, who was playing with Josete Rico.
As for Momo Gonzalez’s new partner, in the last few hours it’s being assumed that it will be Javi Garrido, with the player from Malaga moving to the drive side.
Registration for the World Padel Tour tournament will close this coming Tuesday, so we should have the players’ confirmations before then.
