Official! Gemma Triay confirms the end of her relationship with Marta Ortega

The 2024 season is still days away and suddenly the first break-up has been confirmed. It’s Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega, a couple who have been on a tightrope since the end of last season.

The digital media Relevo gave the scoop last Monday, but it has not been until Tuesday when Gemma has made it official through a story on her Instagram profile.

The Spanish couple will break up after playing the Riyadh P1, the first tournament of the season. Gemma and Marta appear on the entry list for the Saudi Arabian tournament, but this will be the first and last tournaments they play this season. Something similar to what happened a few years ago between Maxi Sanchez and Tito Allemandi on the World Padel Tour.

A rumour that has been in the air for several weeks is confirmed

Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega‘s bad end to the season, with some unexpected results and the consequent loss of second place in the couples ranking, seemed to be a big reason for the couple to break up. However, the couple managed to win two titles, the Italy Major of Premier Padel and the Menorca Open of the World Padel Tour, as well as reaching eight finals together.

A few weeks ago, Marta Ortega herself first in an interview that she gave us, and the couple later, through a publication on their social networks on 27 December, confirmed their continuity for this season.

However, in the last few hours, a project that wasn’t at its best has come to an end. The defeat of Gemma Triay, along with Marta Ortega, this past weekend at the Hexagon Cup against her former partner Ale Salazar, may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Gemma has made her break up with Marta Ortega official in an Instagram story. The Menorcan player says that the level of the couple has not been as expected: “After 9 months playing together I feel that we are not reaching the level we have during our training sessions and that is something that is taking its toll on me. I’m not managing to help Marta to bring out her best version or mine”.

Who will Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega play next?

The siren songs were announcing at the end of last year that Gemma Triay had in mind to play with Claudia Fernandez. However, the Menorcan and Marta Ortega ended up moving on, and Claudia joined Lorena Rufo. Now, before the start of the season, it seems that Gemma will change partners and invite the 17-year-old to play together in the following events.

In the case of Marta Ortega, as she is not the one who has taken the step to break, it is unknown who she will play with. With her good position in the FIP ranking (she is sixth) she will surely have many suitors to play with her. What is certain is that we will have a domino effect of break-ups at a time of the season when no one expected it.
