The Superclásico once again borders on the impossible at the Valencia P1

After a week in which we’ve seen absolutely everything, the Valencia P1 has come to an end. Several years on, La Fonteta has once again been treated to the best padel in the world. And what a return it has been – it’s come back in style.

There are matches that are remembered for years. This is going to be one of them. Arturo Coello, Agustín Tapia, Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto once again raised the bar on what these two pairs are capable of achieving together. The physical, technical, tactical and mental display from the four was simply breathtaking. Another cracking final that goes straight into the hall of fame of unforgettable matches.

The typical journalistic line that it was decided by the smallest of margins is, in this case, exactly right. A very back-and-forth match, with comebacks from both pairs, in which the mental factor was everything. Jorge Martínez’s pair took the first set in a tie-break, something that didn’t go down particularly well with the number ones, who responded with a 6-1 in the second to level the match.

But these two pairs are competitive beasts. Galán and Chingotto had the match in the bag at 5-3 on serve in the third set, with the emotional blow of the second set still fresh in their minds. Just at that moment, Pratto’s pair broke serve, took the match to a tie-break and, trailing 1-5, won the match. Over 40 winners from Galán and Tapia. That’s padel for you.

Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero lift their second title in Valencia

As we mentioned yesterday: in recent matches, Ari and Andrea are finding the consistency that any pair needs to establish themselves at the top of the circuit. Last week they knocked out the number twos in Rome; today they claimed the title against the number ones at La Fonteta.

A clear parallel can be drawn with Tapia and Coello: from the backhand side, Ari takes the lead and controls the match so that from the forehand side, Ustero, with his left-handed game, is freer to cause damage. This formula has led them to success in Valencia.

Facing them were Claudia and Sofi, who were playing their first final as a pair and who, at the crucial moments, didn’t quite believe in themselves. 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2 to the Spaniards, who claim their second title of the season and establish themselves as the pair to beat in the middle of the year.
