That’s where the fourth season of the World Padel League kicks off—a competition that, year after year, has brought padel into the sports conversation in a country that, just four years ago, barely knew what a 20×10 court was. And this time, it arrives with the largest and most competitive roster it has ever assembled: 36 players, six franchises, and a lineup that borders on the extraordinary for a tournament with only three editions under its belt.

What is the World Padel League, and why has it grown so much?
The WPL was founded in the United Arab Emirates and launched in India in February 2025. Since then, licensed and managed by Iconik Sports and Events, it has become the premier franchised padel competition in the country: a team-based format—fast-paced and straightforward—designed to engage an audience that is still discovering the sport.
This fourth season brings together six franchises: Vedanta Leopards, Khan Tigers, Panorama Panthers, Aussie Mavericks Jaguars, Game Changers Lions, and VB Realty Cheetahs. Together, they field 36 players from up to six different countries, with Spain and Argentina as the main sources of talent.
The growth behind these figures is no coincidence. According to the India Padel Report 2026, prepared by Hudle and CAA Portas, the Indian padel market will grow from its current value of between 25 and 30 million dollars to between 250 and 300 million by 2036. The player base, meanwhile, has skyrocketed: from just 500–1,000 players in 2022 to nearly 100,000 in 2025. These numbers explain why Mahesh Bhupathi, co-founder of the WPL, describes India as one of the fastest-growing and most exciting countries in the global padel scene right now.
How It’s Played: The Competition Format
The WPL is unlike the padel seen every week on the professional circuit, and that’s a big part of its appeal. Instead of the usual best-of-three-set match between a single pair, each matchup between two franchises is decided over three sets: two are played by men’s pairs and the remaining one by a women’s pair. The team that wins the most sets wins, and in the event of a tie, the total number of games won counts, so not a single point goes to waste.

The tournament is organized into a league phase, with two matches per day among the six franchises, and a final day featuring three matches that decide who takes home the title. In total, there are eleven matches spread over five days of competition.
The names to mark on your calendar
The roster for Season 4 is dizzying just to read: three former world No. 1s, more than ten Premier Padel champions, and thirteen players ranked in the world’s top 20. Rarely has such a high level of talent been seen together on a padel court in India.
