Madrid P1 crowns Galán/Chingotto and Triay/Brea!

It was a Sunday of finals at the Movistar Arena, with the whole city on its feet to bid farewell to this fifth edition. Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto claimed the men’s trophy after a nail-biting match against Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas, whilst Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea once again delivered on the centre court, making it clear why they remain the number ones on the circuit. The Madrid P1 now has its champions.

Galán and Chingotto survive a thrilling match; Nieto and Yanguas hold out until the very end

The men’s final was one to remember. Galán and Chingotto prevailed 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, but the score tells not even half the story: the number 2 couple created as many as 24 break points throughout the match but could only convert three. Opposite them, Coki and Yanguas put on a masterclass in survival, with an imperious Coki Nieto in the transitions and a burst of speed that drove his opponents to distraction, whilst Yanguas, in the second set, time and again came through with winners from behind the baseline to take the set.

In the end, however, Galán once again made the difference. Physically, he’s a powerhouse, and in the crucial moments, that power ended up carrying far more weight. This is the couple’s seventh title, which also marks Ale Galán’s first victory in Madrid since that inaugural edition in 2022, this time with Chingotto by his side. The win also significantly narrows the gap in the Race standings with Coello and Tapia, who were knocked out in the quarter-finals: the gap between the two number 1s is now down to around 28 per cent.

Triay and Brea, with the authority of the number 1s

Whilst the men’s match was a battle of endurance, the women’s was a demonstration of hierarchy. Triay and Brea started by losing the first set in the tie-break to Josemaría and González, in a tie that threatened to get complicated. But from that point on, the number 1 couple stepped up in a manner that was reminiscent of last year’s tournament: 6-3 and 6-3 in the next two sets, with a level of play that went far beyond the mere result. It was the sort of victory that sends a message to the rest of the circuit.

With this win, Triay and Brea have secured their sixth title of the season and continue to extend their lead at the top of the Race. Gemma Triay has also become the first player in the history of the Premier Padel Tour to reach 200 victories on the circuit, a figure that rounds off a perfect week for the world’s number one couple.
