The last tournaments of the first half of the season are now history. The Tarragona P1 has closed its doors with an outcome that nobody would have anticipated so early in the year: Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea are the new world number ones. A piece of news that, although it had been brewing for several tournaments, has been confirmed today in golden letters.
Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea, new world No.1s in Tarragona
It wasn’t just another final. At stake was not only the title, but the throne of women’s padel. Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, until today absolute queens for 840 days, came with the pressure of defending their status against a couple on the rise. But this time, hunger, freshness and consistency won out.

Gemma and Delfi had it clear from the first point. Their tactical approach was impeccable: Triay dominated the cross court against Ari with an intensity that was difficult to contain, while Brea provided balance, pause and a reading of the match that bordered on perfection. The sensations were clear from the start: they were the ones on the rise.
The final result (7-6/6/6-4) not only gives them the Tarragona P1 title, but also puts them at the top of the world ranking. Gemma, with a brave bet and not so popular at the time, sees her decision rewarded. And Delfi, could once again lead Argentina to the top after Ceci Reiter in 2011.
